Drive-In Blues

from Honky-Tonk Days by Dusty Woods

/

about

Took my girl to the drive-in, she went out for a snack / she must have lost her way, 'cause she's still not back... Dusty always said he was a "child of the fifties". He loved fifties ballads and rock'n'roll (so do I - and why did they have to eliminate the "roll" part?). This is his slightly warped take on a typical fifties ballad about lost love.

lyrics

Verse 1:
Took my girl to the drive-in, she went out for a snack
She must have lost her way 'cause she's still not back
Now I'm trying to stay cool,
Got those lost my love at the drive-in blues

Verse 2:
She must have been hungry, so I don't mind
But milk duds and popcorn shouldn't take so much time
Now I'm hungry too,
Got those lost my love at the drive-in blues

Bridge
I know she couldn't have planned this,
She'd never leave me lost and so forlorn
Now I'm flashing my lights so she can find the car
Cause they told me, stop blowing my horn...

Verse 3
Now everybody's staring like I'm some kind of freak
I'm still here at the drive-in, hey, it's only been a week
Oh, what can I do
Got those lost my love at the drive-in blues
